R. Scot Kraeuter is a founding partner of Johnson Kraeuter, LLC. With over 28 years of experience in the legal field, Scot’s practice primarily focuses on family law and personal injury law.

His previous legal experience includes practice in several areas of law including civil trial practice, serious injury and wrongful death, vehicle wrecks, product liability, professional malpractice, and complex civil litigation. Prior to co-founding Johnson Kraeuter, Scot spent over 16 years with the Savannah-based firm Savage, Turner, Kraeuter, Pinckney, & Madison.

Scot is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which includes only 31 attorneys in the state of Georgia and only two from the Savannah area. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates which is an invitation-only national association of 7600 experienced trial lawyers and judges.

He is a member of the Savannah Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, the American Association of Justice, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and a past member of the Chatham County Bench and Bar Committee. Scot has held various leadership roles throughout his career including Chair of the State Bar of Georgia Family Law Section Executive Committee, Vice-Chair of the Family Law Section, and Program Chair and Committee Secretary for the Family Law Institute.

Scot has significant jury trial experience, including the following cases such as Arthur Joe Oliver vs. Suzanne Stewart (2008); Harry Howe and Nieve Howe vs. Amir Hassan (2004); Gordon Smith vs. Gerald Wise (2003); Lisa Gorumba, Kathlyn Veal and Robert W. Galloway, as Administrator of the Estate of Esther Ambrose vs. Eugene T. Ambrose (1998).

He has given numerous lectures and authored various professional articles, including

Prenuptial Agreements in Georgia and Equitable Division: Valuing Assets and Non-Marital Property.  Scot has been invited to speak multiple times at the Family Law Institute, which is sponsored by the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.

Scot has received several recognitions during his tenure including the highest rating of “AV” in both legal professional ability and ethical standards given by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. An AV rating indicates that a lawyer has reached the height of professional excellence and is typically awarded after many years of practicing law. He has been recognized numerous times as one of Georgia’s Legal Elite, which is featured annually in Georgia Trend magazine. Scot has been noted for eight consecutive years (2015-2023) as a Best Lawyer, a recognition that includes only 4% of practicing attorneys in the United States for professional excellence. In addition, he was also recently recognized for the 10th year (2014-2024) as a “Super Lawyer” by Atlanta Magazine, a distinguished award that only includes 5% of all attorneys in the state of Georgia. Scot has also been designated by as a “Top Rated Lawyer.”  Scot has also been listed as one of the 2023 Elite Lawyers of the South by The National Law Journal

Born in Winchester, Massachusetts, Scot received his Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University in 1992 and his Juris Doctor from the Emory University School of Law in 1995.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities including boating and hunting.
